As we have dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a game of talent and good luck. The goal is to move your pieces carefully around the board to your inside board and at the same time your opposition shifts their chips toward their inner board in the opposite direction. With competing player checkers moving in opposite directions there is going to be conflict and the need for particular tactics at specific instances. Here are the two final Backgammon tactics to round out your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the purpose of the blocking plan is to slow down the opponent to move her pieces, the Priming Game tactic is to completely barricade any activity of the opponent by creating a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s checkers will either get bumped, or result a battered position if she ever attempts to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be established anyplace between point two and point eleven in your game board. Once you have successfully constructed the prime to block the activity of the competitor, the competitor does not even get to toss the dice, and you shift your chips and toss the dice again. You’ll win the game for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The goals of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game strategy are very similar – to hurt your opponent’s positions hoping to improve your odds of winning, but the Back Game technique utilizes seperate tactics to achieve that. The Back Game strategy is frequently employed when you are far behind your opponent. To compete in Backgammon with this strategy, you need to control two or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This strategy is more challenging than others to use in Backgammon seeing as it requires careful movement of your chips and how the chips are moved is partially the result of the dice toss.
