As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of talent and good luck. The aim is to move your chips carefully around the board to your inside board while at the same time your opponent moves their chips toward their home board in the opposing direction. With competing player pieces heading in opposite directions there is going to be conflict and the requirement for specific strategies at specific times. Here are the 2 final Backgammon strategies to round out your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the goal of the blocking plan is to slow down the opponent to move her pieces, the Priming Game plan is to completely barricade any activity of the opposing player by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s pieces will either get hit, or end up in a bad position if he/she ever attempts to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be established anywhere between point 2 and point eleven in your half of the board. After you’ve successfully constructed the prime to prevent the movement of your opponent, your opponent does not even get a chance to roll the dice, and you shift your checkers and toss the dice again. You’ll win the game for sure.

The Back Game Tactic

The goals of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game technique are similar – to harm your opponent’s positions hoping to improve your odds of succeeding, but the Back Game strategy relies on seperate tactics to do that. The Back Game plan is generally employed when you are far behind your opponent. To compete in Backgammon with this tactic, you have to control two or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This technique is more challenging than others to use in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your pieces and how the chips are moved is partly the result of the dice toss.
