The goal of a Backgammon match is to shift your chips around the game board and pull those pieces off the board quicker than your competitor who works harder to do the same buthowever they move in the opposite direction. Succeeding in a match of Backgammon requires both tactics and luck. Just how far you will be able to shift your checkers is up to the numbers from tossing the dice, and just how you move your chips are determined by your overall playing strategies. Players use differing strategies in the differing parts of a game dependent on your positions and opponent’s.
The Running Game Plan
The goal of the Running Game strategy is to entice all your chips into your home board and bear them off as fast as you could. This technique focuses on the pace of advancing your checkers with no efforts to hit or stop your opponent’s chips. The best time to use this tactic is when you think you might be able to shift your own chips quicker than the opponent does: when 1) you have a fewer chips on the board; 2) all your checkers have moved beyond your competitor’s checkers; or 3) the opponent doesn’t employ the hitting or blocking strategy.
The Blocking Game Tactic
The main aim of the blocking tactic, by its name, is to block your opponent’s chips, temporarily, not worrying about shifting your chips quickly. After you have created the blockade for the opponent’s movement with a few pieces, you can move your other pieces rapidly off the board. You should also have a clear strategy when to extract and shift the chips that you utilized for the blockade. The game becomes intriguing when the opposition uses the same blocking strategy.
