The goal of a Backgammon match is to shift your chips around the game board and get them off the game board quicker than your opposing player who works just as hard to attempt the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Winning a game in Backgammon requires both tactics and luck. Just how far you will be able to shift your chips is up to the numbers from tossing a pair of dice, and just how you shift your chips are determined by your overall playing techniques. Enthusiasts use different techniques in the differing stages of a match depending on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Plan

The goal of the Running Game plan is to lure all your checkers into your home board and pull them off as quickly as you can. This technique focuses on the speed of moving your checkers with absolutely no efforts to hit or barricade your competitor’s chips. The ideal scenario to employ this technique is when you believe you might be able to move your own pieces faster than your opponent does: when 1) you have less chips on the board; 2) all your chips have moved beyond your opponent’s checkers; or 3) your opponent does not use the hitting or blocking plan.

The Blocking Game Plan

The main aim of the blocking strategy, by its title, is to stop your opponent’s chips, temporarily, while not fretting about moving your checkers quickly. After you’ve established the blockade for your opponent’s movement with a couple of pieces, you can shift your other chips quickly off the game board. The player should also have an apparent plan when to extract and shift the chips that you utilized for blocking. The game gets interesting when the opposition utilizes the same blocking tactic.
