In extraordinarily general terms, there are 3 general tactics employed. You want to be agile enough to switch techniques instantly as the course of the match unfolds.

The Blockade

This is comprised of assembling a 6-thick wall of pieces, or at least as deep as you are able to manage, to lock in your opponent’s pieces that are on your 1-point. This is judged to be the most adequate procedure at the start of the game. You can create the wall anyplace inbetween your 11-point and your 2-point and then shift it into your home board as the game advances.

The Blitz

This is comprised of locking your home board as quick as possible while keeping your challenger on the bar. For example, if your competitor rolls an early 2 and shifts one checker from your 1-point to your 3-point and you then roll a 5-5, you are able to play 6/1 6/1 8/3 8/3. Your competitor is then in serious trouble considering that they have 2 checkers on the bar and you have locked half your inner board!

The Backgame

This course of action is where you have two or more checkers in your opponent’s home board. (An anchor is a point consisting of at a minimum two of your checkers.) It needs to be employed when you are significantly behind as it much improves your chances. The strongest areas for anchor spots are towards your opponent’s lower points and also on adjoining points or with one point in between. Timing is critical for an effectual backgame: at the end of the day, there is no reason having 2 nice anchors and a complete wall in your own inner board if you are then required to dismantle this straight away, while your opposer is getting their checkers home, taking into account that you do not have any other extra checkers to move! In this situation, it’s more favorable to have pieces on the bar so that you can maintain your position up till your opponent gives you a chance to hit, so it may be an excellent idea to attempt and get your opposer to get them in this situation!
