In extraordinarily simple terms, there are 3 chief plans used. You need to be agile enough to hop between tactics almost instantly as the course of the game unfolds.

The Blockade

This is composed of creating a 6-thick wall of checkers, or at least as deep as you can manage, to block in the competitor’s checkers that are located on your 1-point. This is considered to be the most acceptable tactic at the begining of the game. You can build the wall anyplace inbetween your eleven-point and your two-point and then move it into your home board as the match progresses.

The Blitz

This is comprised of locking your home board as quick as as you can while keeping your opponent on the bar. e.g., if your challenger tosses an early two and moves one checker from your one-point to your three-point and you then toss a five-five, you are able to play six/one six/one 8/3 8/3. Your opposer is then in serious trouble taking into account that they have two pieces on the bar and you have closed half your inner board!

The Backgame

This course of action is where you have two or higher anchors in your opponent’s inner board. (An anchor spot is a point occupied by at a minimum 2 of your checkers.) It would be played when you are significantly behind as this strategy greatly improves your chances. The strongest places for anchors are towards your competitor’s smaller points and either on adjoining points or with one point in between. Timing is important for a competent backgame: after all, there’s no reason having 2 nice anchors and a solid wall in your own home board if you are then required to break up this right away, while your opponent is shifting their pieces home, seeing that you do not have any other additional pieces to move! In this situation, it is more tolerable to have pieces on the bar so that you can maintain your position up until your challenger provides you a chance to hit, so it will be a wonderful idea to try and get your opposer to hit them in this situation!
