As we dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a game of talent and pure luck. The aim is to move your chips safely around the game board to your inside board while at the same time your opposing player moves their chips toward their inside board in the opposing direction. With opposing player chips shifting in opposing directions there is going to be conflict and the need for specific techniques at specific instances. Here are the last 2 Backgammon tactics to round out your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the aim of the blocking tactic is to hamper the opponents ability to shift their chips, the Priming Game plan is to completely stop any activity of the opposing player by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s pieces will either get hit, or end up in a battered position if she at all attempts to escape the wall. The ambush of the prime can be established anywhere between point 2 and point 11 in your half of the board. As soon as you’ve successfully built the prime to prevent the movement of your competitor, your opponent does not even get to toss the dice, that means you move your chips and roll the dice yet again. You’ll win the game for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The aims of the Back Game tactic and the Blocking Game tactic are very similar – to hinder your competitor’s positions in hope to improve your odds of succeeding, however the Back Game technique utilizes seperate tactics to do that. The Back Game tactic is generally used when you’re far behind your competitor. To play Backgammon with this tactic, you have to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This technique is more challenging than others to play in Backgammon because it requires careful movement of your chips and how the pieces are moved is partially the outcome of the dice roll.
