As we have dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a game of skill and pure luck. The aim is to move your pieces carefully around the game board to your inside board and at the same time your opposing player shifts their pieces toward their inner board in the opposite direction. With competing player pieces heading in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for particular techniques at specific instances. Here are the 2 final Backgammon techniques to round out your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the goal of the blocking strategy is to hamper the opponents ability to shift his pieces, the Priming Game plan is to absolutely stop any movement of the opponent by assembling a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s chips will either get bumped, or end up in a bad position if he at all tries to escape the wall. The ambush of the prime can be built anyplace between point two and point 11 in your half of the board. Once you’ve successfully assembled the prime to prevent the movement of the competitor, the opponent doesn’t even get to roll the dice, and you shift your pieces and toss the dice yet again. You’ll be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Strategy

The aims of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game strategy are similar – to hinder your competitor’s positions in hope to improve your odds of succeeding, however the Back Game tactic utilizes alternate tactics to achieve that. The Back Game technique is commonly used when you are far behind your competitor. To play Backgammon with this plan, you need to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This plan is more challenging than others to use in Backgammon because it needs careful movement of your pieces and how the checkers are moved is partially the result of the dice roll.
