As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of skill and good luck. The goal is to shift your chips safely around the game board to your inner board and at the same time your opposition shifts their chips toward their home board in the opposing direction. With competing player chips heading in opposing directions there is going to be conflict and the need for particular techniques at specific instances. Here are the two final Backgammon tactics to finish off your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the goal of the blocking strategy is to slow down the opponent to move their pieces, the Priming Game plan is to completely stop any activity of the opponent by assembling a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s chips will either get bumped, or result a bad position if he/she at all attempts to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anywhere between point two and point 11 in your half of the board. After you’ve successfully assembled the prime to stop the movement of the competitor, the opponent does not even get to roll the dice, and you move your chips and toss the dice yet again. You’ll win the game for sure.

The Back Game Tactic

The aims of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game tactic are very similar – to hurt your competitor’s positions with hope to improve your chances of winning, however the Back Game plan relies on alternate techniques to do that. The Back Game strategy is commonly employed when you’re far behind your opponent. To play Backgammon with this plan, you need to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This technique is more complex than others to employ in Backgammon because it requires careful movement of your chips and how the checkers are relocated is partially the outcome of the dice roll.
