As we have dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a game of ability and luck. The aim is to shift your chips carefully around the board to your home board and at the same time your opposition shifts their checkers toward their home board in the opposing direction. With opposing player checkers shifting in opposite directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for particular techniques at specific times. Here are the 2 final Backgammon tactics to complete your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the purpose of the blocking tactic is to hamper the opponents ability to shift their pieces, the Priming Game tactic is to completely barricade any activity of the opposing player by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s pieces will either get bumped, or result a bad position if he/she at all tries to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be built anyplace between point two and point 11 in your game board. After you have successfully constructed the prime to block the activity of your competitor, your opponent doesn’t even get to toss the dice, and you move your pieces and toss the dice again. You will win the game for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The objectives of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game strategy are very similar – to hinder your competitor’s positions with hope to boost your odds of succeeding, however the Back Game strategy uses seperate techniques to do that. The Back Game strategy is generally utilized when you’re far behind your opponent. To play Backgammon with this technique, you need to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This strategy is more difficult than others to play in Backgammon seeing as it requires careful movement of your pieces and how the pieces are relocated is partially the result of the dice roll.
