As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of skill and pure luck. The goal is to shift your chips carefully around the game board to your inside board and at the same time your opposing player shifts their chips toward their home board in the opposing direction. With competing player pieces shifting in opposite directions there is going to be conflict and the need for specific tactics at particular instances. Here are the 2 final Backgammon tactics to finish off your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the goal of the blocking strategy is to slow down the opponent to shift his chips, the Priming Game tactic is to completely barricade any movement of the opposing player by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s pieces will either get bumped, or result a battered position if he at all tries to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be setup anyplace between point two and point eleven in your board. After you have successfully assembled the prime to prevent the activity of the opponent, your opponent does not even get to roll the dice, and you shift your pieces and toss the dice again. You will be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Tactic

The goals of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game strategy are similar – to hurt your competitor’s positions hoping to boost your odds of winning, but the Back Game technique utilizes different tactics to achieve that. The Back Game plan is generally used when you’re far behind your competitor. To play Backgammon with this technique, you have to control 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This plan is more difficult than others to use in Backgammon seeing as it requires careful movement of your chips and how the checkers are moved is partially the result of the dice roll.
