As we have dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a game of ability and good luck. The goal is to shift your checkers safely around the game board to your inside board and at the same time your opponent shifts their checkers toward their home board in the opposing direction. With competing player chips heading in opposite directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for specific tactics at particular instances. Here are the last two Backgammon plans to round out your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the goal of the blocking strategy is to hamper the opponents ability to move her chips, the Priming Game tactic is to absolutely stop any movement of the opposing player by constructing a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s checkers will either get hit, or result a battered position if she at all tries to escape the wall. The ambush of the prime can be established anywhere between point two and point 11 in your game board. Once you have successfully constructed the prime to block the movement of the opponent, your opponent doesn’t even get to toss the dice, and you move your checkers and toss the dice yet again. You’ll be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The goals of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game plan are very similar – to hinder your opponent’s positions hoping to improve your chances of succeeding, but the Back Game tactic utilizes different tactics to achieve that. The Back Game tactic is often used when you’re far behind your opponent. To play Backgammon with this tactic, you need to control 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This strategy is more difficult than others to use in Backgammon seeing as it requires careful movement of your pieces and how the chips are moved is partly the result of the dice toss.
