As we have dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a casino game of talent and pure luck. The aim is to shift your checkers safely around the game board to your inside board and at the same time your opposing player shifts their chips toward their inner board in the opposing direction. With competing player chips heading in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for specific techniques at specific instances. Here are the last 2 Backgammon tactics to round out your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the goal of the blocking tactic is to hamper the opponents ability to shift their pieces, the Priming Game strategy is to completely stop any activity of the opposing player by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s chips will either get hit, or end up in a bad position if he ever attempts to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anywhere between point two and point eleven in your board. After you’ve successfully built the prime to stop the movement of the competitor, your competitor does not even get a chance to toss the dice, and you shift your chips and roll the dice yet again. You will win the game for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The aims of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game strategy are very similar – to harm your opponent’s positions in hope to better your chances of succeeding, however the Back Game technique uses different techniques to achieve that. The Back Game strategy is frequently used when you are far behind your competitor. To play Backgammon with this technique, you have to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This plan is more challenging than others to play in Backgammon because it requires careful movement of your checkers and how the chips are moved is partly the outcome of the dice toss.
