As we have dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a game of ability and luck. The aim is to shift your checkers carefully around the board to your home board and at the same time your opposition shifts their chips toward their home board in the opposite direction. With competing player checkers moving in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for specific tactics at specific instances. Here are the last two Backgammon techniques to complete your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the goal of the blocking strategy is to hamper the opponents ability to shift her checkers, the Priming Game plan is to completely block any activity of the opponent by creating a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s chips will either get hit, or result a damaged position if he/she ever tries to escape the wall. The ambush of the prime can be setup anyplace between point two and point 11 in your game board. Once you’ve successfully constructed the prime to prevent the activity of your competitor, your opponent doesn’t even get a chance to roll the dice, that means you move your chips and toss the dice yet again. You will win the game for sure.

The Back Game Plan

The objectives of the Back Game tactic and the Blocking Game strategy are similar – to hinder your opponent’s positions in hope to improve your chances of succeeding, however the Back Game strategy uses alternate tactics to do that. The Back Game plan is commonly utilized when you are far behind your competitor. To participate in Backgammon with this plan, you have to control 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This technique is more complex than others to play in Backgammon seeing as it requires careful movement of your chips and how the pieces are moved is partly the outcome of the dice roll.
