As we dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a casino game of talent and pure luck. The aim is to move your pieces carefully around the board to your inside board while at the same time your opposing player shifts their checkers toward their home board in the opposite direction. With opposing player pieces shifting in opposing directions there is going to be conflict and the requirement for specific techniques at particular instances. Here are the 2 final Backgammon techniques to complete your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the goal of the blocking strategy is to slow down the opponent to move his chips, the Priming Game strategy is to completely stop any activity of the opponent by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s checkers will either get bumped, or end up in a battered position if he/she ever tries to escape the wall. The ambush of the prime can be setup anywhere between point 2 and point 11 in your half of the board. As soon as you’ve successfully assembled the prime to block the movement of your competitor, the opponent doesn’t even get a chance to roll the dice, that means you move your chips and roll the dice again. You’ll win the game for sure.

The Back Game Strategy

The aims of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game technique are very similar – to hinder your competitor’s positions in hope to better your chances of winning, however the Back Game plan uses seperate tactics to do that. The Back Game technique is often utilized when you’re far behind your opponent. To play Backgammon with this technique, you need to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This technique is more challenging than others to use in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your checkers and how the pieces are relocated is partly the result of the dice roll.
