As we have dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a game of ability and pure luck. The aim is to shift your chips carefully around the game board to your inside board and at the same time your opposition moves their checkers toward their inner board in the opposing direction. With opposing player chips heading in opposite directions there is going to be conflict and the requirement for specific tactics at specific times. Here are the last 2 Backgammon tactics to finish off your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the goal of the blocking strategy is to slow down the opponent to move her chips, the Priming Game plan is to absolutely stop any activity of the opposing player by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s pieces will either get hit, or end up in a damaged position if she at all attempts to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be established anywhere between point 2 and point 11 in your half of the board. Once you have successfully constructed the prime to stop the activity of your competitor, the opponent does not even get to toss the dice, and you shift your checkers and toss the dice yet again. You will be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Plan

The goals of the Back Game tactic and the Blocking Game plan are very similar – to hurt your competitor’s positions hoping to better your chances of winning, but the Back Game tactic utilizes different techniques to do that. The Back Game technique is generally used when you are far behind your opponent. To compete in Backgammon with this tactic, you have to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This technique is more complex than others to play in Backgammon because it needs careful movement of your checkers and how the chips are relocated is partially the outcome of the dice toss.
