As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of ability and good luck. The aim is to move your pieces safely around the board to your home board and at the same time your opposing player shifts their chips toward their home board in the opposite direction. With competing player checkers heading in opposite directions there is going to be conflict and the need for specific strategies at specific times. Here are the 2 final Backgammon plans to round out your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the purpose of the blocking strategy is to slow down the opponent to shift his chips, the Priming Game plan is to completely stop any movement of the opposing player by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s chips will either get bumped, or result a battered position if he/she ever tries to escape the wall. The ambush of the prime can be established anyplace between point two and point eleven in your half of the board. Once you have successfully constructed the prime to stop the activity of the opponent, the opponent does not even get to roll the dice, and you shift your checkers and toss the dice again. You will be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Plan

The aims of the Back Game technique and the Blocking Game technique are similar – to hinder your competitor’s positions in hope to boost your chances of succeeding, but the Back Game tactic uses alternate tactics to achieve that. The Back Game plan is generally used when you’re far behind your competitor. To play Backgammon with this technique, you need to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This plan is more challenging than others to play in Backgammon seeing as it requires careful movement of your pieces and how the chips are relocated is partially the result of the dice roll.
